Clinical Studies

Study participants wanted! Here you will find an overview of our current clinical studies! Please contact us if you would like to participate in one of the studies with your animal or if you require further information! We look forward to hearing from you and will be happy to help!

Biomechanics & Gait Analysis

We examine the gait pattern (kinetics and kinematics) of dogs and cats using modern measurement methods such as force and load measurements and video-based 3D motion analysis. This allows us to record movement sequences objectively and under controlled conditions.

We focus on:

  • Lameness markers and compensatory movements: Recognition of typical changes in movement in the event of pain or incorrect weight bearing.
  • Changes following orthopedic surgery: Measurement of changes in gait pattern during the healing process and under therapy.
  • Reference values for breeds and body sizes: Definition of normal ranges for reliable detection of deviations.

These measurement data form the basis for visualizing therapy effects and analyzing movement disorders in a targeted manner.

Rehabilitation & therapeutic effects

We evaluate how effective various physiotherapeutic and physical measures are. The focus is on:

  • Active and passive movement therapies
  • Underwater treadmill training
  • Laser, electrical, and shock wave therapy
  • Rehabilitation processes following orthopedic and neurological disorders

Our goal: evidence-based recommendations for targeted and effective treatment plans.

Neuromotor function

We develop and test reliable methods for describing the movement restrictions of dogs and cats with neurological disorders.

osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is a common, chronic, progressive, and currently incurable joint disease in dogs and cats that can affect both young and older animals. It leads to progressive joint changes, chronic pain, and limited mobility—with noticeable effects on quality of life.

Our interdisciplinary team provides information on causes, progression, treatment options, and prevention methods. In current studies, we are also investigating new treatment approaches such as shock wave therapy or CBD/CBDA to alleviate pain and improve the animals' quality of life in the long term.

Current studies – participants wanted

We regularly conduct clinical studies for which we are looking for suitable animal test subjects. Our current studies:

  • Gait analysis in canicross dogs
Wanted: Adult, healthy dogs that have been actively participating in canicross for more than 1 year.
  • Gait analysis on a perturbation treadmill
Wanted: Adult, healthy dogs, ideally with previous experience running on a treadmill.
  • Evaluation of dogs after a slipped disc
Wanted: Dogs that have suffered a slipped disc in the thoracic or lumbar spine. This should have occurred at least 3 months ago.
  • Gait analysis in dogs with
    amputated legs
Wanted: Dogs that have had a front or hind limb amputated and have received a prosthesis/orthosis.
  • Evaluation of CBD/CBDA in dogs with osteoarthritis
Wanted: Dogs with osteoarthritis that show lameness despite pain therapy.

We provide pet owners with transparent information about the procedure, its benefits, and possible risks. Participation is voluntary and requires a preliminary veterinary examination.
